Michael Forsyth kimdir?
Mimarlık eğitimini University of Liverpool’da alan Michael Forsyth, hâlen University of Bath’ta Conservation of Historic Buildings [Tarihi Yapıların Korunması] lisansüstü programının direktörlüğünü yürütüyor. Forsyth’ın Buildings of Music: The Architect, the Musician, and the Listener from the Seventeenth Century to the Present Day (MIT Press ve Cambridge, 1985) adlı ödüllü kitabı çeşitli Avrupa dillerine ve Japoncaya çevrildi. Yakın dönemde, Ahmet Ertuğ’un iş birliğiyle hazırladığı Palaces of Music: Opera Houses of Europe ve Domes: A Journey through European Architectural History (Ertuğ & Kocabıyık, 2010 ve 2011) adlı kitapları yayımlandı. Forsyth ayrıca, Avrupa ve Kuzey Amerika’da pek çok konferans verdi.

Michael Forsyth studied architecture at the University of Liverpool and on graduating was awarded the Rome Scholarship in Architecture. After residence in Italy he moved to Canada in 1975 to work on the design of the new concert hall for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with the internationally distinguished architect Arthur Erickson. He also worked on the design and construction of major building projects with the Canadian architect John C. Parkin. Returning to England in 1979, he taught architecture at the University of Bristol and during that time was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture. He became a director of Forsyth Chartered Architects based in Bath, and commissions included acting as arbitrator to the Republic of China in Taipei, Taiwan. In 1995 he was commissioned to create the postgraduate Master of Science degree course in the Conservation of Historic Buildings at the University of Bath, of which he is director of studies. The programme is accredited by The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Michael has lectured and taught at many universities in the United Kingdom and North America. Speaking invitations include lectures in Istanbul and Izmir, Turkey, the Vern Oliver Knudsen Distinguished Lecture to the Acoustical Society of America and lectures and papers given in Birmingham, Ferrara, Turin, York, London, Atlanta, Georgia, Calgary, Alberta and Brussels. He was for several years a member of the selection panel for the Rome Scholarship and of the British School at Rome's Faculty of Fine Arts, Bath Preservation Trust’s Renovations Committee and was Chairman of the Friends of The Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, south-west regional assessor for the Register for Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC), a trustee of the Bath Preservation Trust and a member of the Education and Training Committee of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). His book Buildings for Music was awarded the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' 19th Annual ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for Best Book.

Research

Michael is currently preparing a new edition of Buildings for Music and co-authoring with Dr Marion Harney a book on Capability Brown’s architecture.
